Three people, in particular, are closely linked to the creation of the gardens. Karoline Luise brought her interest in botany with her to Karlsruhe, and yet she was already long dead when Karl Friedrich had the botanical gardens built in 1808. Heinrich Hübsch redesigned the gardens as a picturesque oasis.

The "best lady"

A woman of many talents and with a thirst for knowledge: Karoline Luise stood out amongst the women at the Baden court.

The lover

He ruled longer than most and yet, was still considered modern. He survived his beloved wife Karoline Luise by 28 years.
